HOW THE SYSTEM WORKS

This comprehensive network solution consists of two main components: a cloud-based Central Management System (CMS) for network management, and a range of network devices designed for installation at distributed locations or virtualization in the cloud. These devices are exclusively configured through the CMS, a key security feature that protects against both accidental and malicious local misconfigurations. Private traffic is safeguarded via Cloud SD-WAN tunnels. Notably, no traffic passes through the CMS itself, and no single point of failure exists, as the network is designed with full redundancy. Automated software and firmware updates ensure the entire system remains current and secure.

Security Gateways

Mako Networks' advanced security gateways consolidate multiple networking functions into a single, powerful device. These all-in-one units feature next-generation firewall protection, VLAN routing and switching, encrypted VPN Cloud tunneling, wired and wireless connectivity, and SD-WAN failover capabilities. By deploying these comprehensive gateways across your distributed sites, you can streamline your network infrastructure, potentially eliminating the need for separate routers, firewalls, and other devices at each location. This integration not only simplifies network management but may also lead to significant cost reductions and improved overall efficiency.

VPN Concentrators

Mako Networks' enterprise-grade VPN concentrators, available as physical rackmount devices or virtual instances, efficiently connect numerous remote sites to a central network or third-party services. These devices utilize SD-WAN technology to create thousands of secure VPN tunnels, optimized for hardware and geographic redundancy with high-throughput, low-overhead performance.
Typically deployed at head offices, data centers, or other larger sites, the rackmount models can serve dual purposes as wired security gateways for local deployments, featuring integrated firewall and VLAN support. Mako also offers virtual models suitable for deployment to popular cloud platforms, catering to diverse network architectures.

Access Points

A number of devices in Mako's product line feature dual functionality, serving as both security gateways and access points. The access point mode is a security-focused feature that can be activated through the central management system to limit the device to only those functions necessary for wireless connectivity.
These compact devices are typically deployed to extend wireless coverage, optimize broadcast/reception positioning, or upgrade existing setups to meet the latest performance standards. Their versatility allows for efficient network expansion and modernization without compromising on security.

Managed Switches

Mako's managed switches enhance port density beyond that of a standard security gateway while maintaining centralized control. This enables the construction of fully managed, secure local networks of any size. Mako Networks' product line includes 8-port, 24-port, and 48-port models, all offering fine-grained port control and offering Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) capabilities. These switches feature full VLAN support and PoE on all ports, providing versatile and powerful networking solutions.

SD-WAN FAILOVER AND CELLULAR CONNECTIVITY

Mako Networks' security gateways offer advanced SD-WAN failover capabilities to ensure continuous network operations:

User-Defined Fast Failover

Configure WAN interfaces to seamlessly switch between connections during outages. This maintains stateful connections like live voice calls, ensuring business continuity.

Cellular Failover

Select devices feature built-in SIM card slots for reliable cellular backup. When fixed-line services fail, critical data and VPN traffic automatically reroute to cellular networks.

Flexible Deployment

Cellular-enabled devices can serve as primary internet connections for remote Wi-Fi deployments or locations where traditional wired connections are unavailable.

Customizable Configurations

Control failover patterns and behaviors for each site, balancing performance needs with cellular data usage costs.

Versatile Connectivity

Supports various broadband types, offering circuit, hardware, and geographic redundancy options.
Mako's solution provides the network resilience businesses need, with affordable high-availability options to mitigate unexpected service interruptions. For those requiring additional support, device management services are available as an optional add-on through our professional services portfolio.

FLEXIBLE PRICING MODELS

Mako offers networking solutions through two flexible pricing models to suit diverse business needs:

Subscription-based Service (OpEx)

Enjoy a comprehensive solution with no upfront capital costs for hardware. This model provides predictable expenses on a monthly, yearly, or multi-year basis, including all equipment, software, and access to the Central Management System. Ideal for businesses looking to minimize initial investments and maintain up-to-date technology without the burden of asset ownership.

Upfront Purchase of Device with Licensing (CapEx)

For organizations preferring asset ownership, Mako offers the option to purchase the hardware outright (CapEx). This is complemented by a license fee for software updates and access to the Mako Networks' CMS, available in monthly, yearly, or multi-year terms. This model allows for predictable ongoing expenses while enabling businesses to capitalize their network infrastructure.

Both options provide access to the Central Management System for self-management of devices from a single pane of glass.
Mako's flexible approach allows you to choose the financial and management model that best aligns with your business strategy and operational preferences.
